Staying Away Overnight
Please make yourself familiar with the Driver Overnight Policy (in the Policy booklet).
When workers are required to stay away all accommodation arrangements must be made through their Despatcher or Manager in respect of accommodation, meals and overnight allowances.
Motel/Hotel Accommodation
Workers at all times reserve the right to request that they be accommodated in a motel/hotel utilising the Company approved accommodation suppliers. They are entitled to a dinner provided from the accommodation supplier and they are also entitled to claim a Breakfast/Lunch Allowance which should be claimed when submitting their hours. They will receive it in their pay the following week.
Overnight Allowance
This allows workers to sleep in their truck, or stay with friends and family instead of staying in a motel. They will receive a tax free allowance to cover food and incidentals. This allowance may only be claimed at the discretion of their Despatcher. This allowance cannot be claimed in conjunction with charging of any meals or accommodation to the Company.
All workers who take advantage of this allowance are expected that they maintain a reasonable and tidy standard of dress, appearance and cleanliness acceptable to Company Management at all times.
Workers are ultimately responsible for ensuring that they are fit to complete their work and that they take all minimum periods of rest so that their health and well-being are maintained at all time.
Ferry Crossings
Overnight Allowances are not claimable when travelling on night sailings as you are supplied with a cabin and dinner or breakfast on board. You may however, if travelling on the 2.15am or 2.30am sailings obtain an order number from your Despatcher to purchase an evening meal.
It is not permissible to charge up alcohol to the Company at any time.
